Practical Advise for Automobile Batteries

Batteries are perishable devices with a life that is determined by the charge - discharge cycles, which produce a slow deterioration of the plates. Thus, adequate maintenance is important to avoid accelerating the normal deterioration process.

Please find next a guide with practical advise to optimize the life of your Duncan battery

If you have a Duncan Libre Mantenimiento, you must follow these steps:

Remove the battery plugs and verify the level of water. If it is low, add distilled water until the water reaches the
    end of the plug hole
Insert, adjust and check that the plugs are tighten
Make sure the terminals are clean and well adjusted. If you need to clean them, use a brush
Make sure the battery is strapped adequately to the battery tray, tightening the bolts and nuts to avoid movement
     of the battery
Periodically check the charging system of the vehicle to make sure that the battery is operating under normal
conditions given that flaws in the electric system could affect the normal life of the battery

The Duncan Liberty Plus battery is completely sealed so it does not have internal access for the user. Make sure to routinely do the following inspection:

Check that the battery is properly strapped
Make sure that the terminals are clean and tightened. Use a brush if you need to clean them
Check the charge state of the battery through the densimeter installed on the cover of the battery
Periodically check the charging system of the vehicle to make sure that the battery is operating under normal
conditions that could otherwise be altering the normal performance of the battery

Other factors that could be affecting the normal performance of the battery:

Charging system operation
Overcharge or undercharge shortens the life of the battery. It is generally provoked by failure of the alternator, voltage regulator or the alternator strap.

Frequent Discharges
Frequent deep discharges will eventually damage your battery. If your battery is discharged, charge it immediately to avoid further damage.

Engine Tuning
When your vehicle takes too long to start, it is unnecessarily demanding energy to the battery. Check the ignition system and the carburetor.

Loose support system
If your battery is not properly strapped to the tray, the battery can suffer physical damage that will ruin the battery completely
