Safety Precautions

When manipulating lead-acid batteries, it is important to take the following precautions:

Do not use flammable products, smoke nor create sparks of any type near batteries given that hydrogen
and oxygen gases create an explosive atmosphere
Avoid direct contact with the electrolyte and your skin or any part of the body. The electrolyte is corrosive,
therefore, use anti-acid clothes, rubber gloves and protective eyewear
If your skin or clothes are exposed to direct contact with the electrolyte, wash with abundant water and
apply a neutralizing solution (100 grams of baking soda per 1 liter of water)
If your eyes are directly exposed to direct contact with the electrolyte, wash them with abundant water
for fifteen minutes and seek immediate medical assistance
Do not place metal objects on top of the batteries nor use rings or metal accessories when working
with batteries, even when using rubber gloves
Use insulated electrical tools
Before manipulating the battery, make sure to eliminate the static electricity of your body or your tools
by touching a piece of grounded metal close to the battery, but away from flammable materials
Make sure that all connections are tightened adequately. Loose connections cause excessive heat during
the charge -discharge process that can result in melted posts, fire and explosions
Wash your hands before drinking or eating
